Unconventional sexual preference or styling has been generally frowned upon throughout the world until very recently. One safe haven for these unconventional demonstrations has been in the form of entertainment which permits the flaunting of traditional gender role and styling as long as the fictional nature of these representations are clearly understood. These ambiguous characters which may inhabit popular imagination are usually either evil, comedic or tragic; devices which comfortably distance them from the mainstream who adopt conventional gender distinctions in their appearance and sexual preferences.
